OR THE YIN AND
out for a very early morning walk the other day. It was a divinely beautiful, sunny and warm, spring morning after
a long Saskatchewan winter. As I was walking by some bushes, a jack rabbit jumped out, stared at me then hopped
away nervously. I noticed he was half white and half brown. I was spontaneously filled with an awe and amazement.
Perhaps it was a satori experience. An epiphany. I don’t know. But the fact that rabbits turn white in the winter
and brown in the summer stopped my mind with revelation. He was, without "doing" anything, in perfect harmony with
the universe. Being, just Being.
I realized that I feel that way
about the robins in the spring too. When I see my first robin I feel that everything is right in the universe. No
wars, no famines, no corporations, no good or bad presidents of states united or otherwise, no disease, no oil
shortages can stop those robins from coming back, singing their hearts out, making nests and making babies. Nothing
short of complete earth destruction will make a rabbit stop moulting or a bird stop singing. Yes, there is a Higher
Power in the universe that tops every human ego and bank account in its ability to design and control everything. I
don’t care what you call it. I think it is hard to deny its existence in the face of brown & white rabbits and
blue robin’s eggs.
